Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong, the upcoming narrative RPG by the makers of The Council, is delayed from February 2022 to May 19, 2922.
Revealed in the now-standard format of announcing game delays on social media, the team says it “wasn’t a decision we took lightly, but one necessarily while retaining a healthy work-life balance for our team”.
The pandemic also is a reason for the additional delay (before the February 2022 window, it was supposed to release sometime this year). The additional development time will allow them to work on quality assurance- testing for bugs and fixing them- plus more time to polish the game.
“We’re a small but very passionate team, eager to create an immersive experience that rivals the sort of personal storytelling you’d experience from a great tabletop session,” the post reads.
Swansong features multiple playable characters, all vampires that are part of the Camarilla in New York City, blending in with humans as part of the Masquerade. The game promises multiple choices that can change the course of the game, but with RPG elements. Just like a tabletop session of Vampire: The Masquerade can be.
At least Swansong has a release date. Meanwhile, Bloodlines 2 became from a surprise comeback of a cult-favourite RPG into a development mess with key members leaving the project and a change of a new developer entirely.
There’s a lot of Vampire: The Masquerade games that are out now, however. Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York and Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows of New York visual novels are worth checking out, and there’s even a free-to-play battle royale game, Bloodhunt, out now.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong will be out on May 19, 2022 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch
