Valve has announced that their iconic tactical-based shooter is getting a upgrade/sequel in the form of Counter Strike 2.
This new version of Counter Strike sees the series jump onto the new Source 2 Engine (that has been in used in Dota 2 and the recent Steam Deck title, Aperature Desk Job), with long-time fans not having to worry about their inventory as everything will be coming along with them, just with a new graphics engine and some improvements.
Besides better graphics and a new smoke system, Valve has also revamped the Tick Rate system by bypassing it entirely, and replacing it with a new Sub-Tick Update architecture that monitors movement more fluidly so shots and grenade lobs will always land the same, regardless of Tick Rate.
And we won’t have to wait long to try out the new CS as some players will be selected for a Limited Test that evaluates a subset of Counter-Strike 2‘s newest features, all leading up to it’s release this Summer on Steam.
It’s looking mighty interesting to see how Counter Strike 2 goes against the likes of Valorant, and only time will tell if it is a worthy sequel.
