Tokyo Xtreme Racer Leaves Early Access Later This Month

The new Tokyo Xtreme Racer series, simply titled Tokyo Xtreme Racer in English, will leave Early Access later this September.

The head-to-head highway racing game with the unique way of battling against opponents initially released in Early Access earlier this year, so this is quite the fast turnaround from Early Access to full release.

“We’ve received an incredible amount of feedback and requests from players around the world,” the announcement attributed to a nameless producer of the new Tokyo Xtreme Racer. “Your voices have been instrumental in shaping the game, and we are deeply grateful for your support.”

The full release will a new chapter for its story, new rival racers to race beat and a good number of new parts and cars including from Honda, a manufacturer most celebrated among the Japanese car tuner enthusiasts yet was missing in the Early Access release so far.

The announcement also mentioned that the replay feature will not make it to the full release, as the team prioritised in getting more content out, though it’s coming later. What’s not coming later is a “Steam Record Ranking,” an online leaderboard. This was cut due to “insufficient cheat prevention measures.”

The Tokyo Xtreme Racer series has long gone dormant over two console generations, with the likes of Need For Speed Underground and Juiced among its contemporaries. What makes the series stands out against other racing games is the SP battle system, where racers must outrun their opponent (sometimes opponents) to whittle down the opponent’s SP bar, while avoiding collision or getting overtaken and outrunned. Instead of a point-to-point race, it’s a tug of war that can be as intense as fighting games.

The new entry features storytelling and more flesh-outed characters (each rival is personified by cool, faceless silhouettes), new cars and a skill tree, among other changes.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer (2025) will launch in full on September 25 on PC (Steam).
