No more teases. As expected, the new Need For Speed for 2017 was revealed ahead of E3 and we finally have a title.
Need For Speed Payback. Rather apt, don’t you think?
Need For Speed Payback takes a more story-driven direction with car battles, hot pursuits and set pieces. It’s not all about the racing this time. Payback will also feature three different playable protagonists, each with their own different skillset.
As hinted earlier, the setting is based on Las Vegas, called Fortune Valley. The goal here is to bring The House, a cartel that is controlling all of the city including its cops, down. Vehicle customisation is also back, with off-road buggies, drag and drift builds to be featured, sort of like what we’ve seen in The Crew.

The Need For Speed series had experimented with a more story-driven approach like Undercover and The Run, but those were not as well received- not because of the story, but the whole packaging surrounding it felt off.
The original Most Wanted did well and had a decent story told via FMV, a feature 2015’s Need For Speed took to heart with mixed results. If it plays out like a Fast And Furious movie in (a better) game form, it could possibly have potential.
Need For Speed Payback will be out on PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 10
