Paradox Interactive has confirmed another playable clan for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Following the hard-hitting rebels the Brujah, the intelligent, knowledge-seeking warlocks of the Tremere has now been revealed.
The origins of the Tremere involved occultists who discovered ways to become immortal, turning themselves vampires. Despite being part of the Camarilla, other vampire clans distrust them. The Tremere have the ability to use what is essentially blood magic that can harm mortals and vampires alike.
The Tremere are secretive and always adhere to their social structure- The Pyramid- where no one knows what they are planning. Though recently in the Pyramid has fallen, and while not really accepted in Seattle, their population has certainly increased in Bloodlines 2, now in more danger and freer than before.
In Bloodlines 2, the Tremere’s two disciplines are Thaumaturgy , i.e. blood magic and Auspex.
Thamautaurgy as the active skill Skewer- where you consume Vitae to create spikes out of blood. Purge is the sceond active and that lets you make enemies vomit blood which damage them. Blood Boil activated by casting Purge twice which causes the enemy to explode, causing Area Of Effect damage. All the abilities here will have blood from the enemies absorbed back to the caster.
For Auspex, this is akin to your usual Detective/Witcher/Eagle vision but better (all vampires have a normal variant of these- Heighten Senses). Aura Sense, the first active ability, lets you see NPCs through walls, scan through crowds and mark people, which allows you to see any weaknesses. Psychic Projection lets you move out of your body and explore the area in astral form. Now think of this as a drone vision but the drone is your soul.
For Bloodlines 2, the Tremere’s curse is a bit different from the pen-and-paper system. Tremeres take more damage and other vampires in Seattle don’t trust you.
Also, here’s interesting tidbits from the discussion stream this week:
- Each discipline from the vampire clans will have at least be able to do two of three functionality: combat, traversal and social
- There will be skill checks in dialogue
- You can avoid combat, but you cannot complete the game without not engaging in combat.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be out in Q1 2020 for the PS4, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, Paradox Store) and Xbox One.
