Tekken 8 DLC Adds Final Fantasy XVI’s Clive

Get ready for the next battle, as the fourth and final DLC character for Year 1 of Tekken 8 has been revealed. It’s a guest character from Final Fantasy. No, not that one.

Final Fantasy XVI’s Clive Rosfield joins the battle in Tekken 8. Similar to Final Fantasy XV’s inclusion of Noctis, it’s such a weird inclusion given he would’ve fitted better in a Soul Calibur, but who cares at this point.

Clive has access to his various Eikonic abilities as part of his moveset, from the laser beams of Bahamut to the ice bursts of Shiva. And there’s a new stage based on Final Fantasy XVI, Phoenix Gate, where you can see two Eikons duke it out in the background.

And as you can see in the trailer, having Clive here actually fits well. Consider the events of Tekken 8’s story mode had some serious escalation levels, Jin’s and Clive’s struggles are pretty much alike. It’s even mirrored in their special intro when facing each other, both sprouting wings. And Clive only speaking in English just fits in the Tekken universe where everyone speaks in their mother tongue and perfectly understands each other.

Early Access to Clive is now live for those who purchase the Year 1 Pass, and will be available for ala carte purchase soon.

Clive rounds up the four-character Year 1 Pass which saw the addition of Eddy Gordo, Lidia and Heihachi. Most fighting games have adopted this cadence of new character releases, one character per quarter.

Tekken 8 is out now on PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S. Check out our review of the game here.
