Tandem: A Tale Of Shadows Is A 2D Puzzle Platformer Where You Switch Between Top-Down And Side-Scrolling Perspectives

It’s good time to be a fan of puzzlers and puzzle platformers. There’s plentiful of new games of the genres coming out from the indie scene.

And here’s one cool game announced at the Game Dev Direct last weekend. Tandem: A Tale Of Shadows is a 2D puzzle platformer developed by Monochrome and published by Hatinh Interactive where you control two characters. Based on who you control, you’ll either be playing in a top-down perspective, or a like a usual side-scroller.

Tandem stars Emma and Fenton. A mysterious disappearance of boy leads Emma to team up with the boy’s magical teddy bear, Fenton, in order to find said missing boy.

When controlling as Emma, it’s a top-down game where you must light up a scene so that shadows are casted. As Fenton, you play a side-scroller platformer where you use said shadows to move around.

Both characters are visible on the same screen- so the levels are designed to be viewed two-ways. Clever stuff.

There’s no combat in Tandem, so enemies must be beaten by use of the given mechanics. Of course, you can expect puzzles to solve that makes use of these two characters working in… tandem.

Tandem: A Tale Of Shadows will be out for PS4, PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch later this year.
