2K has showcased Hangar 13’s upcoming remake of Mafia. The first three minutes is Hangar 13 President and Chief Creative Officer Haden Blackman explaining the scope of the remake.
It’s a from-the-ground-up remake, using the prosperity engine that powered Mafia III with a new lighting engine for the remake. The trailer showed footage of the original 2002 game before transitioning to the remake, and the differences are clearly seen.
It has new voice lines and cutscenes now with performance capture. Gunplay and driving has been improved. It has a redesigned Lost Heaven city featuring more vistas, and new to the remake: motorbikes.
That said, it’s a faithful remake that follows the same story beats of Tommy Angelo, a cab-driver turned powerful mafioso during the Prohibition era with all the familiar character cast returning. Missions are based on the ones from the original, such as “A Trip To The Country” showcased here.
