Suikoden is a great JRPG series but currently lying dormant for almost a decade (guess who owns the IP?).
But at least there’s hope for fans of the series. Yoshitaka Murayama and Junko Kawano, creators of the Suikoden, has now formed a new dev team (Rabbit & Bear) in 2020 and are now making a Suikoden spiritual successor called Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign (the most successful of 2020), it looks like more good news have arrived. The game is being picked up by publisher 505 Games.
“We dreamed of making a game for JRPG fans that celebrates everything we love about the genre and lets us highlight everything we’ve learned as game developers over the years,” Studio Lead at Rabbit & Bear Studios Yoshitaka Murayama said. “505 Games is the perfect partner for us and we look forward to working with them to bring Eiyuden Chronicle, and potentially future projects, to fans around the world.”
Eiyuden Chronicle will be using the good-old 2D character sprite art on 3D background art style, and will feature a six-character battle system.
The new dev team have a bunch of talents that help shaped the JRPG landscape of the late 90’s with games like Suikoden, Wild Arms and the Tales Of series, which includes names like Osamu Komuta, Junichi Murakami, Michiko Naruke and Motoi Sakuraba.
This would another game 505 Games are publishing of a successful Kickstarter game by developers in Japan that used to work at Konami, following Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night and the PC release of Death Stranding.
Eiyuden Chronicle is expected to release in October 2022.
