Wargaming is going beyond tanks and warships as they announced Steel Hunters, a new free-to-play mech shooter, at The Game Awards 2024.
Players control Hunters, these giant robots of all shapes and sizes. Some are more like Zoids, animal-like creatures. Some are straight-up mechas. Each of these Hunters has a unique kit that favours different playstyles.
Steel Hunters is equally a hero shooter, a battle royale, and an extraction game. This PVPVE game has the elements of all three. Steel Hunters is also a game about tactics rather than reflexes, which sounds like any other Wargaming titles, as it’s more about picking the right fights, and making use of your Hunter’s strengths.
“Steel Hunters is the result of incredible teamwork and dedication of our talented people in Guildford, Prague and our studios around the world,” said Mike McDonald, Product Director. “Over the past 3 years, we’ve worked relentlessly to create a game that offers a unique take on the mech shooter space by combining elements of different genres into one compelling mix. Today we’re finally ready to show players what we’ve been building.”
Steel Hunters is also running on Unreal Engine 5.
Currently, Steel Hunters has a playtest available on PC for a limited time.
