Steam Big Picture Mode Will Be Replaced With Steam Deck UI

The Steam Deck, Valve’s upcoming handheld PC for playing games on Steam (and possibly more), will feature a brand new UI. And it looks like this new UI will not be limited to the Steam Deck.

A forum post on Steam asking if the Steam Deck UI can replace Steam Big Picture had a response from a Valve employee, austinp_valve. The reply says:

“Yes, we are replacing Big Picture with the new UI from Deck. We don’t have an ETA to share yet though”

Steam Big Picture is the UI for playing Steam games with a console-like experience, perfect for playing PC games on a TV without needing to use any keyboard or mouse controls (though that can be used in Big Picture still).

The UI has not seen any updates since 2015, and looks dated, especially when comparing the glimpses of UI on the Steam Deck.

However, don’t hold your breath on seeing Steam Big Picture will be replaced. But at least we now know it’s happening.
