Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Releases This September, Includes Crossover Characters From Sega, Atlus And Beyond

At the 2025 Summer Game Fest showcase, Sega announced they have locked a release date for its arcade racing game Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

The new trailer also reveals that the game’s cast of characters will not just include the extended cast from the Sonic The Hedgehog series.

Surprise! Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is actually a Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing game after all! They just shortened the title.

Three characters from Sega and Atlus game series have been revealed to part of the cast: the ever-iconic vocaloid Hatsune Miku (seen shredding on an Extreme Gear), Like A Dragon’s number one Dragon Quest fan and Dragon Kart enthusiast Ichiban Kasuga, as well as Joker from Persona 5.

But that’s not all. The stinger at the end also revealed that this kart racer will have another character familiar with carts, of the mineshafts kind. Steve, Alex and a Creeper from Minecraft is crossing paths again with Sonic in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the second time to happen following the two being invited into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will have 23 Sonic characters at launch, and free updates will be adding new playable characters later on. The trio of Miku, Joker and Kasuga, alongside more characters, will be added post-launch for free.

Not all of the characters are free, however. The Minecraft collab is part of a Season Pass so additional purchase is required to access the characters, vehicles and that Minecraft-themed track.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the latest arcade racing game in the Sonic Racing/Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing series, but the first to be developed entirely in-house. Team Sonic is leading the development alongside the Sega arcade team, the team with rich history making landmark arcade racers including OutRun, Sega Rally Championship, Sega Touring Championship, and Daytona USA.

Not only will Sonic and friends be racing in various tracks and worlds, players around the world can all race together as the game has cross-play support, “unlike some other kart racer” as was cheekily implied during the live showcase.

On the topic of that other kart racer, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds should play like that one kart racer, if the gameplay hasn’t changed much since the last closed beta test.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be out on September 25 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
