Nekcom Entertainment has revealed a new game by developers 2P Games: Showa American Story.
It’s an action RPG set in an alternate timeline where America has been culturally colonised by Japan during the heights of the Showa era (1926-1989), which results in the US taking a whole lot of cultural influences from Japan, from changing its building aesthetics to renaming whole towns and neighbourhoods.
And then the zombie apocalypse happens.
You play as Chigusa Chōko, a 19-year-old stand-in for action movies who is moving to “Neo Yokohama” (previously Hollwyood) with her sister. Only to get killed at the airport.
Chōko then wakes up from the dead after some time, only to find the world in shambles. Now she has to fight zombies, monsters, the yakuza and bōsōzoku gangs as she goes on a journey across Showa America to find back her sister.
And yes, the trailer is just as wild as the description of the setting of this post-apocalypse Japanified USA world. The song, Sorega Daiji, is quite the pick to accompany the trailer.
From a gameplay standpoint, Showa America Story will give you access to a variety of weapons, from guns and katanas to drills that create the heavens (yep).
There’s also a mystery power gained from Chōko’s resurrection. You’ll also have an RV as your headquarters that can be improved over time and you get to do various mini-games.

Showa American Story somehow has the funky but fascinating style of weird, something you would usually see in a Suda51 or Swery65 joint. It even has that b-movie feel, which the game is proud to proclaim to be intentional. That setting alone should get some attention.
It will be interesting to see how the Chinese developer and publisher’s take on an action RPG turn out to be. No release date or platforms have been announced for Showa American Story yet.
