Resident Evil Requiem Gets “Leon Must Die Forever” Post-Game Roguelike-Ish Mode In Free Update

Capcom dropped a new content update to the survival horror game Resident Evil Requiem. Called “Leon Must Die Forever,” this is an extra game mode that only unlocks after finishing the main story where you play as Leon S. Kennedy in what’s basically an arcade, roguelike-ish survival mode.

The mode reuses the areas seen in the main game, but now with stronger enemy variants, random pick-one-of-three-choices “enhancer abilities” that will drop randomly every run (this is the roguelike element), and five difficulty ranks.

Leon Must Die Forever mode also adds four new costumes for Leon, including Leon with wolf ears and tails for the furries out there, a Leon wearing a Porsche Cayenne headgear like he’s about to attend the Japanese Grand Prix for the car enthusiasts (who are okay with the existence of crossovers) out there.

It’s a bit like Resident Evil VII’s Ethan Must Die mode. The naming convention should be familiar to Devil May Cry fans, which several games had “Dante Must Die” mode as its toughest difficulty setting.

Older Resident Evil games (and the remake for Resident Evil 4) had Mercenaries Mode or a variation of that. Those fill in the same gap as post-game arcade modes for players to experience the action combat outside of playing through the story again, though structured differently.

The free update to Resident Evil Requiem that adds Leon Must Die Forever mode also includes bug fixes across all platforms. For PC, the Resident Evil Requiem now supports all of the DuelSense PS5 controller’s features including adaptive triggers, haptic feedback and motion sensor.

Resident Evil Requiem is out now on PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S.
