Cris Tales is out now. The indie RPG developed by Dreams Uncorporated and SYCK is inspired by classic and modern JRPGs like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Valkerie Profile, Persona 5 and Bravely Default, but brings its own twist with the incorporation of time powers.
As Crisbell, you’ll be exploring the world as the Time Mage facing off against the threat of the Time Empress. As the Time Mage, Crisbell can see the past, present and future at the same time, the game screen split into three windows of time. You will have to make decisions that will alter the future, and will require you to peek into the different time zones to progress.
You will be gathering a party of characters on your journey, and your adventures will also involve exploring a world map (like the classics JRPGs of old).
Combat-wise, it’s essentially a turn-based JRPG. But with a twist. Crisbell’s time powers will let you do interesting combos you might not expect. Send an enemy to the past and they’ll be younger and weaker. Soak a metallic enemy with water and send them to the future, where the “soaked” status effect evolves to become “rust”.
Also, just look at it. It has a gorgeous 2D cartoon artstyle.
Cris Tales is out now on the PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Stadia, and also available on Xbox Game Pass (Console, PC, Cloud).
