Rogue Legacy 2 Leaves Early Access With Major 1.0 Update

After almost two years in Early Access, Cellar Door Games’ Rogue Legacy 2 is now ready to enter 1.0 with a major update, as well as a release on Xbox consoles.

The sequel to the 2013 seminal indie roguelite, Rogue Legacy 2 expands the 2D platforming gameplay in many ways.

New classes that actually play differently this time, a bigger persistent skill tree, an improved traits system that encourages you to play the weirder ones, a Metroidvania-esque ability unlocks in the form of Heirlooms are among the many new things added.

Alongside that, Rogue Legacy 2 also has House Rules, a suite of adjustable difficulty options to make the game accessible for beginners or more challenging for the hardcore masters of 2D platformers.

Version 1.0 adds the ending sequence to the game (the golden gates are now open!) and introduces two new classes: the Pirate and the Astromancer. Plus, there’s an in-game jukebox where you can listen to the game’s soundtrack, though you need to unlock the songs by completing achievements.

Early Access players will also be glad to know that there’s now a way to save one Gear and Rune loadout per class.

The patch notes for version 1.0 is huge, with a lot of documented buffs, nerfs and changes that you can peruse here.

Rogue Legacy 2 is out now on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. You can find out what we thought of the game in our review here.
