Rocket League Getting Unreal Engine 6 Upgrade

Epic Games just unveiled the next iteration of the Unreal Engine game engine. Unreal Engine 6 will be used for Psyonix’s super-sonic-acrobatic-rocket-powered-battle-cars game Rocket League.

The short 30-second Rocket League teaser is the first real-time in-game footage of a game running on UE6.

The cars are shinier, the grass grassier and the Unreal Engine logo has a new number. That’s all the talking point we have for now.

Back in 2021, Epic Games unveiled Unreal Engine 5 with a tech demo and a lot of bullet-point features that in theory would give game developers the tools to make the games they truly want to make. Epic later transitioned its in-house games into UE5, starting with Fortnite.

It’s also interesting to note that Rocket League is currently running on an older version of Unreal Engine. Unreal Engine 3, to be precise. So for the soccar game first released in 2015, this really is “a new era.”

Rocket League is out now.
