Project Warlock II, the sequel to developer Buckshot Software’s retro shooter, will enter Early Access later in June, publisher Retrovibe announced.
The Early Access period is planned to last a year, in which the devs will collect feedback and further refine its gameplay. The Early Access version will include the first chapter, of which three are planned, all featuring a different playable character.
The first chapter of Project Warlock II will see you play as Palmer, who has to defend his home castle from a demon invasion. The chapter will contain six levels, 10 times bigger than any individual level from the original game, the devs claim.
Project Warlock II’s brand of looter shooter features a 2D-3D mix of an art style, something that brings that feel of a retro shooter (or a boom shooter, as some may call it), but with its own stamp of identity (the cel-shading here looks rad).
You can see it in this new gameplay trailer revealed during the MIX 10th Anniversary Online Showcase. Look at those cool demons you can blast and explode into gibs.
The original Project Warlock is closer to Wolfenstein 3D where you don’t have any sort of verticality in its levels. Project Warlock II will feature 3D levels that have multi-level floors and some verticality.
Project Warlock II enters Early Access on PC via Steam and GOG this June. A playable demo is currently still available on Steam should this shooter piques your interest already.
