After the release of the new trailer for Red Dead Redemption II, IGN has managed to get some hands-on time of a 45-minute demo of the anticipated Rockstar game. With that, new information about the gameplay has now emerged.
IGN has reported that playing as Arthur Morgan, the right-hand man in Dutch Van Der Linde’s gang means you also have a job to keep the gang morale high by providing supplies. As the new trailer hinted, the gang is on the run and will be setting up camp in various part of the west- the demo features the region of New Hanover. Each member of the gang has a task in the camp, and bumping into them will naturally trigger a mission opportunity. No more stopping to an exact location to trigger a cutscene to trigger the mission, missions, main missions or optional ones.
In the demo IGN played, they triggered a mission to gather food. You can pilfer small camps for supplies or buy some from stores in nearby towns, but the best way to gain food is hunting. Get a game such as a deer and you then have to carry it down to the local butcher or straight to the gang’s camp. Wait too long and it will decay and rot.
IGN also talked about how the crowd will react when you have the gun out or not. This should be expected, but it also means you can escalate a situation by just bringing it out. Threatening might be a good idea- civilians might just scamper and run away without much fight, but expect that to not work all the time- some might be armed themselves. Dead Eye, the bullet-time mechanic that appeared in Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Revolver, also makes a return.
There’s plenty of cool details that was revealed in the original article, so be sure to check that out here.
