For the 4.5 million of you that managed to get your hands on a PS5, save the date. The next PS5-exclusive, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, now has a release date.
Insomniac’s next entry to the long-running Ratchet & Clank series will have a standalone story, perfect for newcomers to hop in. For veterans of the series, expect to see nods from the past games.
Speaking of which, the pre-order bonus gives you an early unlock for the Carbonox armour (last seen as the best armour unlock in Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando) and the Pixelizer gun from Ratchet & Clank (2016), which turns enemies into pixels, or rather, 3D voxels.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart sees the Lombax and robot duo trying to stop Dr. Nefarious from accessing alternate dimensions where the villain wins. Ratchet and Clank gets separated and meet “a new Lombax resistance fighter” (the lady Lombax with a mechanical arm, which will be playable), “explore new and familiar locales (but with new dimensional twists!), and wield a whole new arsenal of out of this world weapons.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart had a pretty big showing during the PS5 reveal, flexing the SSD’s fast loading speeds by seamlessly loading completely new levels in a matter of seconds. Expect the same third-person gunplay and 3D platforming as expected from the series.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart launches on June 11 exclusively on PS5.
