If you ever wondered why PlayStation haven’t uploaded the gameplay portion of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart as a standalone video after its announcement at the PS5 stream, wonder no more.
At Opening Night Live 2020, Insomniac Games showcased the full, uncut gameplay demo of the action platformer. Now we have a bit more context. Ratchet & Clank is confronting their old nemesis Dr. Nefarious who has the Dimensionator, and probably hired thugs, curiously renamed as Goons-4-Less (they were called Thugs-4-Less before).
It’s the same gameplay we’ve seen, but now without any cuts. The demo ends with Clank getting separated from Ratchet to land in another dimension where a mysterious (playable) female lombax greets him.
The interview on Opening Night Live also sheds a bit of light on more context for Rift Apart. The game is set after the events of Ratchet & Clank: Into The Nexus, though it’s still a standalone story where anyone can jump in. But fans of the series will some nods here and there.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be a PS5 exclusive and will launch in “the PS5 launch window”, which can be anywhere between “later this year” to “Q2 2021”.
