Revealed during Opening Night Live 2026 is a new single-player Rainbow Six game.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics, developed by Ubisoft Paris, is exactly what the title suggests: a strategy-based tactics game set in the Rainbow Six universe, specifically the current universe seen in Rainbow Six Siege.
In Rainbow Six Tactics, players take on the role of Six, commander of the Rainbow unit, as you deploy a team of four operators on various assignments around the world, which includes hostage rescues and bomb disposal.
Players will be directing their four selected operators from a top-down perspective in a turn-based manner. Yes, this plays a lot like the progenitor of modern strategy tactics games: XCOM.
You won’t be deploying randomly generated soldiers that climb the ranks and can permanently die in Rainbow Six Tactics. Rather, you have a roster of 15 operators, all based on the operators seen in Rainbow Six Siege complete with unique abilities and gadgets. They also have unique skill trees, so even if they have a specific kit, there’s still room for players to tailor suit the operators to a particular play style.
Rainbow Six Tactics has some of the familiar destruction mechanics as seen in Rainbow Six Siege. Walls and cover can be destroyed to open up line of sight or deny the enemy a strategic position. There’s also the Breach feature where all operators act at once as part of a synchronised assault.
The Rainbow Six series of games, based on the world and characters first penned by Tom Clancy, started out life as single-player titles. Planning how to approach a room breach is just part of the experience as players control a squad of counter-terrorists in high stakes missions. The series has since evolved to be a multiplayer PVP live service with Rainbow Six Siege, which continues to be played for more than 10 years now.
There was an attempt to make a non-PVP Rainbow Six game since Siege, though it didn’t find an audience.
Turning Rainbow Six into a strategy game is a pretty cool idea. It’s a great way to get more players discover or rediscover the current version of the Rainbow Six universe without having to play a competitive multiplayer title.
Rainbow Six Tactics has no release date yet, but it’s coming to PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect) and Xbox Series X|S, as well as through streaming services Ubisoft+. GeForce Now and Blacknut.
