Rainbow Six Siege Is Coming To PS5 And Xbox Series X, With Cross-Gen Multiplayer Support

Rainbow Six Siege will be coming to the next generation of consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X, as Ubisoft commits to another two years of supporting the competitive FPS.

Speaking to Windows Central, Siege is being targeted for a release on the launch day of the two consoles. Which should be around Holiday 2020 (end of the year), subject to change.

“Why I can’t give you a date is because those dates are, in the end, on the people doing the next-gen consoles,” said Leroy Athanassof, game director for Rainbow Six Siege. “What I can tell you is that we are going to be on [the consoles] from launch. When they will release the consoles; but it’s up to them to agree that. For Siege, our target is to be available right at launch.”

The same interview also confirmed that cross-gen multiplayer will be supported. This means PS5 players can play with those on PS4, and Xbox Series X players can play with those on Xbox One. Crossplay is still in progress as Ubisoft are still in talks with Sony and Microsoft. Though we should expect PS-Xbox crossplay being the focus when that arrives.

Plans for cross-platform progression, or cross-saves, is still in the works as well. This means players can transfer their progression and unlocks to accounts on other platforms.

Rainbow Six Siege will be getting another update soon for Year 5: Operation Void Edge, which adds two new operators and various other features and changes.
