The sequel to the puzzle game mashup Puyo-Puyo Tetris has a trick up their sleeves. The new Skill Battle Mode introduces RPG elements on top of the versus puzzle gameplay.
In Skill Battle mode, you form a team of three characters, each of the playable cast has different abilities that can trigger. In this mode, it’s not about who can avoid stacking their Tetrominoes or Puyos to the top of the board first. Rather, you will still keep playing if you still have HP left.
Characters can trigger skills like “Crestfall” (reduce opponent’s attack), “HP recovery” and more. These can be triggered anytime during the match, or will automatically be active from the start of the match.
Garbage Puyos or Tetrominoes will also do an HP attack, and can be seen before the garbage appears. So you can react accordingly to defend or counter from the attack with your own Tetris/Puyo-Puyo combo.
Your team can be further powered up by equipping Item Cards. Characters and Item Cards will be unlocked as you make your progress in Adventure Mode.
RPG elements go with any kind of game these days, and that includes Tetris and Puyo-Puyo. Puyo-Puyo Tetris 2 launches on December 8 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. It will also be coming later to PC (Steam).
