Well this is a surprise. Sega just released Puyo Puyo eSports on PS Store Asia.
For the uninitiated Puyo Puyo is a classic puzzle game series by Sega. Its latest release was a crossover of Puyo Puyo and Tetris. Announced at Tokyo Game Show this year, Puyo Puyo eSports has the look and feel of the recent Puyo Puyo Tetris game but without the Tetris and focus on offline and online competition.
Puyo Puyo eSports supports both the classic rule (Puyo Puyo Tsu) or an alternate rule called Puyo Puyo Fever. 24 characters will be available to play and as the title suggest, it’s focused on the competitive elements. There even is an in-game tournament bracket system geared for esports.
From today until the end of November, the game is 75% off, dropping the retail price of RM75 to a low bargain of RM18.75.
However, like many Sega games developed in Japan, it is released only in Traditional Chinese and Korean languages for now. This is due to the way handles localisation which means English/Western releases take longer to arrive. However, a recent financial report by the company shows that Sega are taking steps to ensure games will have worldwide releases moving forward.
Puyo Puyo eSports is also available on Nintendo Switch.
