Polestar 5 And Renault Espace F1 Are Coming To Gran Turismo 7

Two new trailers for Gran Turismo 7 were released, revealing two new cars coming soon to the sim racing game, likely as part of the Spec III update set to drop this December.

The first is the introduction of a new manufacturer: Polestar. The marque that started out as performance marque specialised in tuned Volvos which later was acquired by Volvo to be their performance badge before spinning them off into a seperate marque entirely. Polestar hasn’t made many video game appearances, aside from Need For Speed Heat when the Polestar 1 was its hero car, which later reappeared in Need For Speed Unbound.

The Polestar 5 EV will be coming to GT7 this December, as seen in this promo trailer here. So this car will join the 8-car additions coming to the Spec III Update.

Another trailer was from Gran Turismo themselves, showcasing the Yas Marina Circuit. This will be the first track in the series from the Middle East, and the first time the track to grace the series. The new trailer features some of the previously revealed new cars coming with the Spec III Update (the Mitsubishi FTO, Ferrari 296 GT3, Mine’s Skyline GT-R, a new non-branded open-wheeled single-seater that should mimic the Formula 1 cars of the early 2000s) plus one more familiar face: the Renault Espace F1.

Featured previously in Gran Turismo 2, the Renault Espace F1 is an engine-swapped MPV. But not just any engine, it’s the Renault F1 engine (and gearbox) that powered the Williams F1 Team to a Constructor’s Championship win and Alain Prost’s fourth Driver’s championship win. A V10 out of an F1 car on basically a van makes this is a rather silly, but powerful, car. It’s a fan-favourite for this reason, right up there with the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak (which has been added in GT7), so it’s nice to see the return of the F1 Espace.

Gran Turismo 7 Spec III update will feature 8 new cars (6 are now more-or-less been revealed), two new circuits (the other being Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal) and a data logger feature to help players find performance with similar tools used in real racing teams. It’s a big update, big enough that GT7 is skipping the usual content updates for October and November.

Gran Turismo 7 is out now on PS4 and PS5.
