PlayStation is on an acquiring spree it seems, as Dutch game development studio Nixxes announced that have been acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Nixxes don’t make their own games, but you may have seen their logo appearing in various multi-platform games, especially the ones published by Square Enix. Nixxes are specialists in making PC ports.
Nixxes will be joining the PlayStation Studios Technology, Creative & Services Group “to provide high quality in-house technical and development capabilities for PlayStation Studios.”
This is the second studio acquisition announcement from PlayStation Studios, following the previous news of Housemarque, makers of Returnal, joining the fold.
PlayStation has expressed its intent to continue releasing its big-budget AAA exclusive games to PC, as we’ve seen with Horizon: Zero Dawn and Days Gone recently. Acquiring some capable hands that have done PC ports is a big sign of intent that they seriously mean it. Though this deal doesn’t mean that Nixxes will solely be working on PC ports.
