People Can Fly Has Seven Projects In The Works Including Self-Published Titles

People Can Fly has announced today that one of its announced games, Project Dagger, will likely not be published by Take-Two Interactive.

But alongside that, the developer has also revealed they have six other projects, seven including Dagger, currently in development.

The action-adventure game, as it’s now been revealed, has been in development for two years, is still in the pre-production stage, with the current development “focusing on closing combat and game loops and migrating from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5” being led by a team based in the New York office.

Project Dagger was first reported to be in development in late 2020 (which lines up with production having gone for two years), with Take-Two as the publisher (likely via its publishing arms such as 2K or Private Division).

However, People Can Fly has made a statement that “it has received from Take-Two Interactive a letter of intent to terminate the development and publishing agreement by means of mutual understanding between the parties.”

Take-Two is not opting to buy out the intellectual property (IP) for Project Dagger, which means People Can Fly now owns the rights to the game and is considering to self-publish the title.

“I assume we will part on good terms, and I don’t see reasons why we couldn’t work with Take-Two on some other project in the future,” said Sebastian Wojciechowski, CEO of People Can Fly.

“We strongly believe in the Project Dagger’s potential and are now committed to continue its development within our self-publishing pipeline.”

The statement also revealed seven current projects People Can Fly currently have in development, and they are the following:

  • Project Dagger
  • Project Gemini (published by Square Enix)
  • Project Bifrost (self-publish)
  • Project Victoria (self-publish)
  • Project Red (still in the concept phase)
  • Green Hell VR
  • New VR project “based on one of the IPs from [People Can Fly’s] portfolio”

(Note that Green Hell VR is out now, developed by VR-specialist developer Incuvo, owned by People Can Fly.)

It looks like People Can Fly will be busy in the upcoming years. The company are open to releasing a new game every year starting from 2024, either via self-publishing or via a partnership with a publisher.

People Can Fly’s previously released Outriders in 2021, and has done well for publisher Square Enix.
