Pearl Abyss, the South Korea-based developer mostly known for the MMORPG Black Desert, showcased one of its other projects at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2021: DokeV.
DokeV is described as a “creature-collecting open-world action-adventure game”. Players are these trendy kids wearing street wear with the ability to traverse the open-world town using skateboards, bikes, jet skis, magical swingshots and tiny cars.
You get to see the kids be kids, playing at the playground with other kids. And then see monsters, called Dokebi here, appear in the open world. The kids are equipped with various weapons, including giant toy hammers and toy guns. You can even suck the monsters with a handheld vacuum.
DokeV looks vibing, playful and probably a good time with the gameplay trailer showcased here. It helps that the K-Pop music used in the trailer is catchy as heck. The only thing that’s weird is the uncanny look of the kids’ faces juxtaposed with the very realistic looking world, powered by Pearl Abyss’ proprietary engine.
“Although the DokeV project is still under development, we are very proud of what we have been able to show you today and feel confident to meet and exceed your expectations,” said Sangyoung Kim, Lead Producer at Pearl Abyss. “We at Pearl Abyss are excited to see your reactions and hope that you look forward to DokeV.”
DokeV is one of the many other projects Pearl Abyss is working on outside of Black Desert, Black Desert Mobile and Shadow Arena. Other projects still in the works include Crimson Desert (revealed last year, but won’t be out this year) and Plan 8.
