Overwatch League – New York Exelcius Is Sizing Things Up
Another Overwatch League has just announced its team name, and this one so far stands out the most. The New York Exelcius, or the NYXL is the team headed by Sterling Group, one of the non-endemic organisations to join the Overwatch League.
Excelsior means “ever upward” in Latin and as the press release states: “represents the extreme scale and boundless ambition of the city, and the passionate drive of a team committed to reaching the top and never letting up. Excelsior represents the
heroic optimism and positivity of Overwatch, a game that empowers everyone to become a hero.”
The XL in NYXL, the official abbreviation, also captures the city’s spirit, “the city of more people, more fans, more creativity, more drive, more passion, and more soul.”
As for the roster, NYXL opted for an-all Korean lineup. The players are:
- Joong “Janus” Hwa – Tank
- Dong-gyu “Mano” Kim – Tank
- Kim “Mek0” Tae Hong – Off-Tank
- Kim “Pine” Do Hyeon – Flex
- Park “Saebyeolbe” Jong Yeol – DPS
- Bang “JJoNak” Sung-Hyeon – Support
- Hong “ArK” Yeon Joon – Support
- Kim “Libero” Hye Sung – DPS
The first four players were part of Luxury Watch Blue, one of the fist Korean Overwatch teams to be seen before the OGN Apex thanks to their participation in the Gosugamers Weeklies. ArK and Libero were part of Luxuxry Watch Red whereas Libero were previously playing for Meta Athena.
