When Need For Speed Payback announced it will ditch the online-only requirement fans were elated. But it also ended up cutting one good thing about that feature: online free roam. It is sometimes fun to see fellow racers cruising around and even organise car meets using the online free roam.
A tweet from the Need For Speed Twitter account announced that the highly-requested feature from fans will be returning soon as a free update.

Free to everyone.

This suggest that the game is still being actively supported. Payback just received its first paid DLC drop, the Speedcross update, and will slowly roll out several cars initially announced as part of the car list but then went missing as Abandoned Cars.
