Octopath Traveler Series Sold Over 6 Million Copies

Square Enix announced that the Octopath Traveler series, which includes Octopath Traveler, Octopath Traveler II and the recently released Octopath Traveler 0, has sold over 6 million copies worldwide.

This tally counts both physical copies and digital downloads.

It’s also important to note that Octopath Traveler has been on Xbox Game Pass subscription in the past.

Still, the sale milestone shows that there is a fanbase for the series. Octopath Traveler’s biggest draws are that it’s the series that introduced what Square Enix dub as HD-2D graphics (pixel art sprites over 3D world), and it’s more freeform structure where you can travel the world and tackle story quests in any order.

In essence, Octopath Traveler is a JRPG series that took on some western-RPG sensibilities.

If you pine for good-old turn-based combat (where the party stands on the right side of the screen and the enemies have larger sprites), a more mature story tackling dark themes and a long playtime, Octopath Traveler (and its sequel and prequel) is worth checking out.

To mark the occasion, Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II are both currently 60% off on most platforms (sales duration vary based on platforms). Either games have a standalone story so players can just pick whichever game to start with.

The newly released Octopath Traveler 0 is still full-price, of course. But the prequel is based on the free-to-play mobile game Octopath Traveler: Champions Of The Continent, and there is a demo available should you wish to have a taste before deciding if it’s worth getting.
