Nvidia Introduces GeForce RTX 3050, Available Starting January 27

At CES 2022, Nvidia announced a new entry-level and (hopefully) affordable GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card.

This is a new Ampere architecture GPU, so it’s on par with the rest of the RTX 30 Series GPUs. But it’s the new entry-level of the RTX 30 Series, sitting below the RTX 3060.

The “50-class”, referring to the Nvidia graphics cards ending with the number 50 (like the GTX 1050, GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1650), are usually popular, but also not really geared for high-end performance.

Nvidia however, says that the RTX 3050 will be able to run ray-traced games (which includes Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War, Doom Eternal, F1 2021 and Control) at over 60fps. The GTX 1650, for comparison, hovers around the 50fps mark on Doom Eternal as its best benchmark result, based on Nvidia’s own tests.

On another note, the GeForce RTX 3050 will start with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. VRAM capacity of graphics cards is important these days with ever-growing texture sizes, and 8 gigs should be enough to run the higher settings of modern PC games. That’s twice the number of VRAM the previous entry-level RTX card, RTX 2060 at 4GB VRAM.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 will be on sale on January 27 starting at $249 USD (approximately RM1066). Though the ability to secure one at retail price is another story with the ongoing supply chain issue still at large.
