No Plans For Additional Content Coming To Dawn Of War III Due To Poor Sales And Small Active Playerbase

War is sunsetting

Bummer news. Developers Relic Entertainment has confirmed that they are halting all content updates for its 2017 release Warhammer 40K: Dawn Of War III.

The Dawn Of War series started as a pure RTS, but its sequel scales down the army into more intimate squads with a loot-driven single-player campaign. Dawn Of War III continues to be an experiment by blending in RTS and MOBA elements this time, with a bigger army size but still small compared to the first game. It only featured three races, the Space Marines, Orks and Eldar, with expectations of new races to come via DLC.

A statement retrieved by Eurogamer confirms that there are no plans for DLC in the future. It’s just not worth supporting a game that has not sold well.

“While Dawn of War 3 has a dedicated player base, it didn’t hit the targets we were expecting at launch, and it hasn’t performed the way we had hoped since,” the statement reads. ” It’s been tough for us as professionals who want to make great games for our players, and for us as people who care a lot about what we do.

“When a game underperforms, plans need to change. With Dawn of War 3, we simply don’t have the foundation we need to produce major content. We’re working in close partnership with Sega and Games Workshop to determine the best course of action, while shifting focus to other projects within our portfolio.”

As for Relic, they will continue to be busy, there are now working on Age Of Empires IV for Microsoft.
