No More Final Fantasy VII Remake DLC Planned After Intergrade’s Yuffie Episode

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the PS5 release of 2020’s best video game remake (according to us, at least). The new version will include an all-new episode focusing on Yuffie, who you’ll be playing in a two-chapter DLC.

In the second part of an interview by Weekly Famitsu with FFVII series director Tetsuya Nomura, it is confirmed that Square Enix has no plans to make more DLC for Final Fantasy VII Remake.

And technically, they never was any- the new Yuffie episode is being referred to as DLC for technical reasons only.

“Due to the nature of the upgrade system, it resulted in us having to label the new Yuffie sections as ‘DLC’,” Nomura said. He is referring to the free next-gen upgrade Square Enix offers to existing owners of Final Fantasy VII Remake (not counting the ones who own it via this month’s PS Plus freebie).

“However, the original intent was to create a PS5 version of FFVII Remake and not to produce DLC,” Nomura added. “Accordingly, we do not have any plans for DLC at this time.

If there were no free next-gen upgrade, the new episodes where you play as Yuffie would just be new additional content to the International/Intergrade release of the game. But in order to still provide free-next upgrades, the episode was repackaged as DLC.

That being said, the work the development team has done on making Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has made work much smoother for the FFVII Remake sequel, which we can expect to be developed with the next-gen consoles in mind from the get-go.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be releasing on June 10 exclusively on the PS5.
