Nintendo has revealed the retail price and release date for the Nintendo Switch 2. But games in Southeast Asia, official availability for the new hybrid console will be a bit later than the rest of the world.
The Nintendo Southeast Asia Facebook page posted that availability of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be sometime between July and September 2025. So this will be at least a month later than the US release date of June 5. And it’s not for the entire SEA, just four confirmed countries: Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.
Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Switch Online Coming To Southeast Asia
The good news is, Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo eShop availability are coming to the four countries. Which is big progress.
This is also confirmed on the Switch 2 landing page for Southeast Asia.
SEA hasn’t had online regional support, to the point that when we at Gamer Matters (as well as other local outlets) are supplied game codes for the Hong Kong region of the eShop whenever a publisher supply us review codes. And that’s despite the existence of Southeast Asia-based publishers that usually release games on Switch (shoutout to Leoful).
It may seem like bad news, but it looks like Nintendo is stepping up its presence in the region, despite having to launch the Switch 2 in SEA later than the rest of the world.
Nintendo has made more retail presence in Malaysia recently by having kiosks in select retailers (complete with branding, brochures and live demos for Switch games), as well as official Shopee and Lazada online stores to purchase hardware and physical games.
At the recent Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, the console maker revealed all the features of the console as well as a lineup of games, including an extensive support from third-party publishers and developers.
