Nintendo Announces Return to Kanto Region With Pokémon games for Switch

Pokemon Let's Go blends the Pokemon Go experience with the Pokemon RPGs

Fans of the original 151 Pokemon should rejoice, for the Nintendo Switch is getting a bizarre new spinoff Pokémon game in the form of Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee.

The game is a new approach to the first generation of Pokémon games where the player starts with a Pikachu, similar to Pokémon Yellow, or an entirely new option, Eevee.

The new trailer shows that the new RPGs for the Switch will borrow a lot from the mobile Pokémon Go games, such as the capturing system of chucking Pokéballs when a colored ring is at an appropriate size.

On top of this, the game will also support splitscreen co op, allowing your friend to jump in too. Given the RPG nature of the Pokémon game, it is unknown how this character will function.

The game features integration with mobile phenomenon Pokémon Go, allowing players to transfer their Pokémon from their phones into their Switch, though the reverse is not said to be possible.

Features in the game appear to include following Pokémon a la Pokémon Yellow and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, riding Pokémon as well as the removal of wild Pokémon battles in favor of having the wild Pokémon simply eat your Pokéballs until you catch it.

The games will also be launching with a peripheral called the Pokéball Plus which lets you take Pokemon on walks in the real world, similar to the Pokéwalker from HeartGold and Soulsilver which can also be used as a controller for the game.

Fans may remember talk of a “Mainline Pokémon RPG” coming to the Switch, Gamespot reports that this is not it and that the game is merely a spinoff.

Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee as well as the Pokéball Plus will release November 16, 2018.
