Ninja Theory Announces Project: Mara, A Real-World Horror Game About Mental Terror

Since joining the Xbox Game Studios umbrella, Ninja Theory has been cooking up a few games. First is the multiplayer action game Bleeding Edge. Then Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II got announced. And now they revealed another game in the works: Project: Mara.

Announced in a new dev diary series- The Dreadnought Series– Project: Mara revolves around “a real-world and grounded representation of mental terror, based on real lived experience accounts.”

Building on their experience working with mental illness, Project: Mara will tackle the horrors of the mind but with one character, in one real-world setting.

Project: Mara is considered an “experimental title” aimed to find new ways of storytelling. Whether this is genuinely groundbreaking stuff or just a horror game with a different take of said horror is still too early to call. But good on Ninja Theory, and Microsoft, on letting the team try out things.
