New Steam Beta Client Adds Support For Xbox Elite Controller Paddles, Xbox Series Share Button Remapping

Steam has now rolled a new beta client, expanding support for the Xbox controller.

This will allow controller mapping for the paddles found on the Xbox Elite controllers and the share button found on the new Xbox Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S. Games on Steam can also make the use of trigger rumbles as well.

You’ll need to enrol into the Steam beta client (On Steam, go to Settings, Account, Beta Participation). After that, you’ll need to enable the Xbox Extended Feature from the Controller Settings and restart your PC after a driver install before being able to manually map these buttons to whatever function you’d like. A dedicated screenshot button, for example.

You can also wait for a bit until this support rolls out into the main client. Looking at the support for the PS5 DualSense controller recently, it shouldn’t be too long of a wait.

Steam continues to provide controller support for PC games on its platform. And in this case, it has far surpassed Microsoft’s own support for the new Xbox Series controller. The share button is still unusable on Windows Store games at the time of writing.
