New State Of Play Reveals More Gameplay Details Of PS5-Exclusive Destruction AllStars

For the lucky ones who have gotten a PS5, the next PS5 exclusive is coming out next week.

Destruction AllStars combines car-wrecking carnage of Destruction Derby with some flamboyant on-foot platforming in this multiplayer-focused video game.

And a new State Of Play showcase has arrived (unfortunately with little fanfare) detailing more intricate details of what this is game is all about. It’s not as meaty as other State Of Plays at 7-minute long, but it’s enough to get you see what the hooks the game has on offer.

The main loop of Destruction AllStars as presented here is to pick a hero, get in a car, and wreck as much damage as you can. There are disposable cars everyone can get in (divided into three archetypes- the speedy ones, the small and nimble ones and the heavy hitters). Those on-foot can make use of traversal abilities to get into new cars, including the ones your opponents are driving. You can mash buttons to jack in, or trigger an explosion.

The heroes in Destruction AllStars have ultimate abilities. Charge them up and they can summon a Hero car unique to them, and can use hero abilities while in the car or on-foot. The ones showed here are from Shyft- which can trigger a stealth cloak- and Lupita- which can leave a trail of damaging fire behind them- both in-car and out.

There’s also some more footage of the previously revealed game modes. The last one, Gridfall, has a similar vibe to that one Fall Guys final level, but with cars and some walls you can wallrun on.

Also, there is a progression system that only unlocks cosmetics. There is a normal (AllStar Coins) and premium currency. The premium currency, Destruction Points, will be available to buy as micro-transactions. There are plans to award Destruction Points for doing dailies and weekly challenges, but that won’t be available on launch.

Destruction AllStars will have single-player content in the form of Challenge Series. Think of it like an arcade mode from a fighting game, with curated game modes to go through. But there’s also single-player exclusive game modes as well like Transporter, that looks a bit like Crazy Taxi. There’s a bit of story being told here as well, with the State Of Play showcase revealing that there will be cinematics in the mode.

However, Challenge Series will only unlock by using Destruction Points. This, this might be a problem.

Having a multiplayer game on launch of a scarcely available console is quite the risky move. But at least Destruction AllStars will launch on February 2 free for active PS Plus subscribers. Even if you don’t have a PS5 yet, if you have PS Plus you can claim the game when it goes live.
