New Rise Of The Ronin Trailer Shows Open World, Stealth And The Shinsengumi

Rise Of The Ronin, Team Ninja’s next action RPG game and the third game by the developer in three years, revealed a new trailer at the January 2024 State Of Play.

Rise Of The Ronin, unlike past soulslikes/masocore action RPGs the development team has produced, will be set in an open world, and we see that in action here. The town of Yokohama is featured, looking rather modern as it is the first of the port cities in Japan to open its borders to foreigners.

The game allows you to grapple onto rooftops and also jump on horseback.

Rise Of The Ronin is set during the Bakamatsu period, the tail end of the Edo period that eventually leads to the Meiji Restoration era. Which explains why the samurai player character can wield flamethrowers and bayonets alongside your katanas.

And for those in that kept up with their Bakamatsu lore and history, you’ll be glad to know that the Shinsengumi will be part of Rise Of The Ronin. You can see Shinpachi Nagakura is a boss fight shown here.

There’s definitely plenty of carry-over mechanics from last year’s Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and to some extent, Stranger Of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. The central health bar, deflects and parries and up to two party members supporting you.

Rise Of The Ronin will be out on March 22 exclusively for the PS5. On another note, the game shares the same release date with Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma II.
