New Need For Speed Game Coming In 2019 But Won’t Be Seen At EA Play
As we’ve reported early this year, a new Need For Speed is coming this year. And now we have the first hard confirmation on this.
A new Under The Hood post, essentially a dev blog, was posted directly on r/needforspeed announcing the game, but it won’t be appearing at EA Play this June.
The post reaffirms that cars and customisation are at the core of Need For Speed, and will definitely be the strong points of the new title. But as the series reaches 25 years old, the post hints of something new, and breaking tradition.
The first of that tradition is not revealing the game just yet.
“Our goal is to deliver a truly memorable high-speed entry into the 25 years of NFS, rather than a series of promotional events,” the post reads.
“The game matters most – a sentiment we bet you share with us.”
Given the situation of EA’s latest big release Anthem, maybe it’s a good thing with not overly-hyping a game before it’s properly ready. So don’t expect to see and hear anything about it until the developers are ready. A stealth-release ala Apex Legends, maybe?
The last entry, Need For Speed Payback, tried something new, but made a lot of homages and callbacks to the series’ long history. Overall, our review called it “an improved outing for the series”.
