New Control Resonant Trailer Makes A Good Case For The Best Use The Prodigy In A Video Game Trailer

Control Resonant is looking more and more gnarly as we get close to release. And at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, Remedy showed off another trailer to get more eyes on this follow-up to Gamer Matters’ Game Of The Year 2019: Control.

The trailer is short, but packed with things you can expect from the upcoming action game. A weirdly shaped Manhattan where up is relative? Sure. Splices of very odd FMVs? Of course. Ominous rooms bathe in red lighting and the occasional floating corpses? That’s definitely Control. Protagonist Dylan doing air launchers and air juggles to the beat of Omen by The Prodigy? Now that’s the best part.

A running gag we have at Gamer Matters is keeping track of the many good uses of The Prodigy in a video game. So far it’s two thanks to the excellent needle drops in Hi-Fi Rush and Watch Dogs: Legion. Control Resonant might join this list if this song actually plays in the game itself and was not just licensed for this hype trailer. That said, it is a pretty hype trailer, thanks to the music choice.

In Control Resonant, the director of the Federal Bureau of Control is gone. The SCP-esque oddities are let loose. And you play as Dylan, brother to the director and previous protagonist Jesse, as he’s now awaken to… take control… of the situation.

While Control is a third-person shooter, Control Resonant trades a shapeshifting gun with a shapeshifting melee instrument, turning the game into something that’s more akin to a character action game. Like a Devil May Cry, in other words.

Control Resonant will be out on PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S on September 24. The physical release for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will arrive slightly later on October 15. A version for Mac (Steam, Apple App Store) will also be coming later this year.
