The next game from Wolfeye Studios, the team behind Weird West, will be published by Neowiz.
The South Korean publisher will be globally distributing the still unnamed game, described as a “retro sci-fi first-person action RPG” (in other words, a retro sci-fi immersive sim).
“Partnering with a studio brimming with incredible talent at Wolfeye is a timely and strategic fit for us,” says Seungchul Kim, co-CEO, NEOWIZ. “This collaboration reaffirms our commitment to delivering remarkable story-driven games that resonate with gamers worldwide on PC and console platforms.”
“We have a burning passion for making a very specific type of game that blends RPG, action and simulation,” says Raf Colantonio, Creative Director and President, Wolfeye Studios. “These games can only be successful when the publisher shares that same passion.”
“With Neowiz, we found a partner that truly understands our vision and is as committed as we are to delivering a unique, creative and memorable game experience that will appeal both to our long-term fans and new players alike,” said Julien Roby, CEO and Executive Producer, Wolfeye Studios.
Colantonio and Roby are among the ex-Arkane Studios veterans that makes up Wolfeye Studios. Weird West was a top-down take on an immersive sim. Though technically marketed as an action RPG, but it has all the simulation and systems-based mechanics that makes a game worthy of that 0451 lineage.
Teaming up with a big publisher, this is the folks that made Lies Of P, is a sign that this next Wolfeye game is aiming bigger. And hopefully, those who are pining for something akin to Dishonored and Prey (2017), especially now that Arkane Austin is no more, have something to look forward to. The new concept art revealed has that Wild West mashed with retrofuture aesthetic going for it, a bit more rustic compared to say, The Outer Worlds.
There’s no release date yet for the still unnamed next Wolfeye game.
