Malaysia’s Lemon Sky Studios Contributed To Development Of Redfall

Redfall, the co-op open-world looter-shooter by Arkane Austin is out now, and if you go to the credits screen, you’ll spot a familiar studio name under its list of outsourcing and co-development team: Lemon Sky Studios.

The Malaysian-based game art and animation studio contributed to making art assets for Redfall, particularly character interactive props, assets and environmental art.

While Lemon Sky has had prior experience working with other fellow Bethesda studio Tango Gameworks for Hi-Fi Rush, this was the first time they have worked with Arkane, a studio known for its particular art style- a more stylised, pronounced general look and feel.

“Balancing the realistic feel with stylised aesthetics was an intriguing venture for us,” said Ken Foong, Chief Creative Officer & Chief Operations Officer at Lemon Sky Studios.

“It opened up a learning opportunity for us especially for our artists working on texturing to achieve the iconic Redfall look.

“We were definitely inspired by Arkane’s vision and we are extremely proud of the final outcome. We look forward to working with them again in the future.”

Lemon Sky and Arkane Austin collaborated for 4 years, and that includes having to work through a pandemic, which meant teams have to transition to remote work.

“As this would be the first time we were working with Arkane Austin, we were very keen on ensuring that the transition into remote working mode was carried out as smoothly as possible. Arkane Austin were great partners, supporting us in every way possible throughout the process,” said Eng Tzy Ling, Studio Manager at Lemon Sky North.

Lemon Sky Studios, now a subsidiary of iCandy Interactive, have previously worked on other AAA games including The Last of Us Part 1, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and for an older example, Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Redfall is out now on Xbox Series X|S and PC. It’s also available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
