Lenovo Reveals 10th-Gen Legion 9i Gaming Laptop With Forged Carbon Lid And Ridiculous Specs

Lenovo has unveiled its latest iteration of its flagship gaming laptop, the 10th generation Lenovo Legion 9i.

Referred by Lenovo as the “Lenovo Legion 9i (18″, 10)” (18-inch screen, 10th generation), this is billed as a gaming laptop for “those who play [games], and those who make them.”

The laptop was unveiled at Lenovo’s Tech World Shanghai event, and will be showcased at Unreal Fest in Orlando, Florida later this June.

This is the rare instance of a gaming laptop being promoted as a production workhorse for content creators or, in this case, game makers and developers.

But the specs of this beast (Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU with 24GB VRAM at 175W power) does mean it can handle a game engine suite like Unreal Engine, whether that to make small UEFN projects on Fortnite or full-blown video games.

It also supports up to 8TB of SSD and up to 192GB or DDR5 RAM.

The 10th-gen Legion 9i can even come with a 4K (2840×2400) screen that can be switched to output in 3D at 2K (1920×1200) and with refresh rates that can be toggled between a whopping 240Hz and a jaw-dropping 440Hz, wild.

With this much power (280W of wattage), the Lenovo Legion Coldfront, the cooling system that consists of a vapour chamber, a “hyper chamber” (a fancy shorthand to describe Lenovo’s heatsink design that’s more effective at bringing cool air in and hot air out that it doesn’t need side vents) and a four fans. It can keep the laptop running below 48dB while in Performance Mode. Not that quiet but it’s also not as loud as a PS4 in full blast, which can go about 60dB while producing less TFLOPS and wattage of power.

And if the specs of this beast hasn’t hinted at how expensive this gaming laptop will be, well, look at that chassis lid. That’s not a graphic or an 18-inch sized vinyl sticker. The chassis lid is made out of Forged Carbon. That’s a high-end, superlight (lighter than aluminium) premium material you’d see offered on supercars, as an option. And the eight layers of “aviation-grade carbon fiber” is hand applied, so the way the Forged Carbon lid looks on each Legion 9i are all unique due to this artisanal touch.

Finally, a purchase of the Legion 9i comes with three months of free PC Game Pass subscription, and Legion Ultimate Support, a service unique to the manufacturer where they provide full coverage on parts, labour and next-day onsite repairs.

Lenovo will announced the local availability and price at a later date. Judging by the competition’s laptop prices, expect to pay a lot to be able to lug these 18-inch slabs home.
