Lenovo has a new version of its handheld gaming PC, the Lenovo Legion Go S. This is a new design for the chonky handheld, with non-removable controllers, a slightly smaller screen at 8 inches (0.1 inch smaller), slightly lighter (730g, 10g less than the Legion Go).
What really makes the Legion Go S special is that it comes in two variants, one running Windows 11, the other running on SteamOS, the same custom OS as the Steam Deck.
The Legion Go S is the first official handheld licensed to use Valve’s custom OS based on Linux. So you can have the Steam Deck experience (streamlined, dedicated interface for gaming, quick resume feature) outside of a Steam Deck.
Valve just announced that a beta version of SteamOS can be installed on other handheld PCs. But the Legion Go S is the first device outside of the Steam Deck to ship with SteamOS.
The Legion Go S isn’t a replacement of the Lenovo Legion Go, however. Lenovo also revealed a prototype of the 2nd generation Lenovo Legion Go at CES 2025.
