Kabaret, the upcoming narrative-driven game by Persona Theory Games, now has a release date. It’s two weeks from today.
Kabaret has you play Jebat as he enters the mystical realm of Alam Bunian. As a newcomer to the mystical realm of Southeast Asian myths, Jebat is then tasked with performing tea ceremonies for the local visitors of the Kabaret, and learning the secrets of the various monsters that call this land home.
Expect to see at least one vampire that feasts on babies (because that’s how vampires in this part of the world rolls), mini-games of Congkak (Mancala, but as how folks in SEA plays them) and Guli as well as different routes and endings based on the choices you made.
Kabaret is steeped in Southeast Asian myths and folklore, and to some folks, this will be an exciting way to explore the culture not often seen in video games, through the lens of local developers.
Previously, the developers have collaborated with Indonesia ethnic music fusion group SambaSunda for a music video.
Kabaret will be launching on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on April 5. A demo of Kabaret is still available right now on Steam.
