Australian indie devs Pixel Drake are working on Jupiter Junkworks, a sci-fi puzzler with a story and a whole chiptune soundtrack good enough that it will played live at a concert ahead of its Early Access release.
Jupiter Junkworks soundtrack composer Jamatar will be playing some of the game’s song live in as part of the Reignite music event at Humdinger Studios, Melbourne, Australia on January 31.
In Jupiter Junkworks, players follow the story of the trio of Ryla, Grant and Jun as they salvage junk in the titular salvage yard. It’s a puzzle game, but it’s heavily emphasised to be fast and action-based.
There’s a vertical well of junk where you clear said junks by forming complete horizontal lines using not-tetromino shapes. It’s like fast Tetris but not really, and also gnarly amounts of screen shakes when you slam those pieces down.
The game also features a hard, metallic sci-fi look befitting that junkyard aesthetic. The choice of having chiptunes as its score is interesting, but once you hear the beeps and boops from the trailers you’ll know why it’s worth playing at a concert.
But if you’re more than interested in playing the game itself, Jupiter Junkworks has a demo available now to try out its puzzle action goodness.
Jupiter Junkworks will launch on PC (Steam) as an Early Access title later this year. A demo is now available.
