Hollow Knight: Silksong Gets Free DLC As Sales Pass 7 Million Copies

That seven year wait for the follow-up to Team Cherry’s soulslike metroidvania Hollow Knight has bore fruit. The indie developer announced that they have sold over 7 million copies of Hollow Knight: Silksong.

This doesn’t include the number of players who gave it a go via Xbox Game Pass, which is said to be “millions more.”

It’s been a good three months since Silksong had its release date announced out of nowhere, only to crash several storefronts on launch.

But this isn’t the end of Silksong, as the devs announced a new expansion is coming. The expansion-sized DLC, Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea Of Sorrow, is going to be out in 2026. And the… cherry… on top of this announcement? It’ll be free.

Speaking of free, the original Hollow Knight will also be getting a Switch 2 version. Owners of the Switch version will get this upgrade for free, just as Silksong’s Switch 2 upgrade is. This will launch in 2026.

Hollow Knight: Silksong began life as DLC for the 2017 Hollow Knight, which then expanded into a standalone release. And now this former DLC is getting its own DLC, with a title that incorporates a semi-colon and a dash.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, GOG), Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
